The Bigness Of Being Short

Longed for, and New for ‘22, it has now arrived, Icon Classic Shorty

Customarily, S-style instruments have always incorporated a 25 1/2 inch scale length. What this means is that the length of the string from nut to bridge is 25 1/2 inches long. It is this attribute, together with its overall design and construction, that is responsible for this guitar’s signature sonic character and playing personality—projecting with upper end definition and big, low end clarity.

Opposingly, “Single-Cut” guitars, with tilt-back neck-to-body geometry and top-mounted bridge, have largely embraced a shorter, 24 3/4-inch scale length. The resulting reduced string tension and overall design style present a softer and extremely mid-focused personality.

But, what if…

You were to utilize the design parameters of the “S” structure—flat body-to-neck geometry, through-the-body string path—but with the shorter 24 3/4-inch scale length? What would remain and what would change?

Delightfully, all the S attributes that we love and desire and identify with still remain unmoved, however the utilization of the shorter scale length does bless the S player, who needs it, with a bigger reach from its shorter scale and an easier-to-access midrange fullness while slightly rolling the pop at the top and the snap and crackle of the big low end.

So in essence, Icon Classic Shorty is an iconic, classic S-stye guitar with an easier to manage midrange and a bigger reach—complements of its big shortness.

And while we are together, let’s remember that in this current climate of seeming unrest, All You Need Is Love. Peacefully and powerfully transformative—right now. And music has long been an effective, established way to say it and share it.
